Mitrovica – The Colors of My Soul

Driven by an inner need to capture what does not fade—sounds, silences, scenes, and emotions tied to his hometown—and to express through art how space shapes us and remains in memory, artist Shućri Ćeljiku creates a series of paintings that make up his solo exhibition “Mitrovica – The Colors of My Soul.”

This exhibition does not depict Mitrovica as it is today, but as it lives in the artist’s memory and emotion—as a city that shapes identity, preserves stories, and speaks softly to those who know how to listen. In the following, the artist offers a reflection on the creative process and the emotional depth of both the exhibition and Mitrovica itself.

Mitrovica is not just a city. It is the spirit that raised me, the noise that shaped me, the silence that speaks to me. With every brushstroke and every color, I recreated the streets that remember me, the bridge that divides and connects, the faces of the past that now live in memory.

This exhibition is a return to identity—not only my personal one but also the collective identity of a city that never stops speaking, even when silent. In these paintings, I didn’t aim to reproduce Mitrovica, but to feel it again. And if that feeling reaches you—then the painting has spoken.

My Mitrovica is not just a birthplace. It is root and memory, pain and pride. In this solo exhibition, I presented Mitrovica as I feel it—not as it is today, but as it lives within me: in colors, shapes, ruins, and dreams.

These paintings are a testimony of my spirit connected to the streets, bridges, sounds, and silences of my city. Where every stone has a story, every building carries a breath, and every curve holds a memory.

This is an artistic journey toward identity, speaking the language of art about love for a place, for its people, for a memory that never fades.
