Press release on the incursion of the Kosovo Special Police forces into the buildings of local self-government in northern Kosovo
NGO Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture strongly condemns the violent incursion of the Kosovo Special Police forces into the buildings of local self-government in northern Kosovo.
NGO Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture strongly condemns the violent incursion of the Kosovo Special Police forces into the buildings of local self-government in northern Kosovo. We emphasize that any form of violence against citizens is unacceptable, as they have the right to peaceful protest against the unilateral actions of the authorities in Pristina. Of particular concern is the use of physical force against citizens, including women.
The violent actions of the Kosovo police undermine the process of reconciliation and normalization of relations and represent a continuation of pressure on the Serbian people in Kosovo, which has been intensified by the construction of bases on occupied private property and the deployment of checkpoints by special units in northern Kosovo.
On this occasion, we call on the Government of Kosovo to cease unilateral actions and withdraw the special units from municipalities in northern Kosovo, and to resolve all outstanding issues peacefully with the mediation of the EU and diplomatic representatives in Kosovo. In this regard, we emphasize that all open issues must be resolved in agreement with local communities in northern Kosovo. Furthermore, we urge international missions, organizations, and all diplomatic representatives to take concrete steps towards the withdrawal of special forces and the calming of tensions.
