Together for Clean Rivers



Project Description

The project "Together for Clean Rivers" is a joint initiative of ACDC and REC, aimed at improving the quality of water resources and strengthening environmental governance in multiethnic communities in northern Kosovo, with a focus on river flows connecting North and South Mitrovica, Zvečan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavić. The initiative directly addresses priority intervention areas, particularly in the fields of environmental protection, enhancement of local cooperation, and promotion of sustainable solutions through a participatory approach.

Project Activities

  • A1: Research component – identification of point-source polluters and river condition analysis

  • A2: Development of analyses and recommendations

  • A3: Meetings with municipal working groups

  • A4: Educational workshops for citizens and youth

  • A5: Support to local initiatives

  • A6: Media campaign

  • A7: Public conferences – opening and closing

Expected Results

  • A pollution map of rivers in northern Kosovo created;

  • Recommendations for water resource conservation and management;

  • Increased citizen awareness of the importance of water protection;

  • Empowered local communities for environmental action;

  • Improved intersectoral and interethnic cooperation.

This project is supported by the Integrated Water Resources Management in Kosovo (IWRM-K) program, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Government of Kosovo, and implemented by Skat Consulting Ltd. (Switzerland) in consortium with the Environment Agency Austria (EAA).
